Sacraments

Anointing of the Sick

Appointments for the Sacrament of the Sick are made directly with our Pastor, Fr. Paul. You may contact him by email or voicemail.

You will need to provide the following information:

  • Name of the person to be anointed
  • Address (residence, hospital, etc.)
  • Name of contact person
  • Contact person's  phone number
  • Any other pertinent information

To make your request:

  • Email Fr. Paul with your request.
  • Or call 831.624.1271, ext. 5 to leave a voicemail message.
Sacrament of Baptism

Carmel Mission offers the sacrament of Baptism for children under 7 years of age whose families who are registered parishioners, have a close family member who is a registered parishioner, or who were married at the Mission.

Baptisms are currently private with your invited guests only, and typically occur on select Sundays at 1 p.m.

If you feel you meet the criteria and are interested in securing a date, please contact Liturgy. Please note that, per Canon law, the request for Baptism must come from a parent.

First Holy Communion

We welcome you and your child to a blessed year of preparation for First Communion and First Reconciliation.

Our Faith Formation program offers Holy First Communion and First Reconciliation for baptized children in grades 1st–4th. The Diocese of Monterey’s guidelines for First Communion require a two-year preparation period, typically beginning at age six, or first grade. The program runs from September to May each year.

Our first-year First Communion/First Reconciliation class is open to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade students. Once this first year of Faith Formation is completed, they will be able to participate in our second-year program specific to First Communion/First Reconciliation. Attending weekly Mass is part of the journey and is expected.

Registration
Registrations for 2024–2025 is now closed. To register your child(ren), please watch for a registration announcement in our Parish bulletin. Forms and more information regarding the 2025–2026 year will appear in this section once registration is open. Please follow the registration directions, and we will follow up with you once the registration is received.

Registration Fees
First Communion registration fees: $240. If you are facing financial hardship and need to set up a payment plan, please reach out to us. No one will ever be denied participation in our programs for financial reasons.

Confirmation

The Diocese of Monterey’s guidelines for Confirmation requires a two-year journey for baptized teens. Preparation classes for the Sacrament of Confirmation beginning in freshman year of High School. Each year, the group will complete 12 classes, plus a mandatory retreat - for a total of 13 sessions. Attending weekly Mass is a part of the journey and is expected.

The program begins in the fall with a parent/student welcome and orientation.

Reconciliation

Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) is held in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel from 9 – 10 a.m. every Saturday.

Those wishing to attend should park in the front parking lot by Rio Road. Staff will be on hand to assist and guide you.

Ministries

Homebound Eucharistic Ministry

Homebound Eucharistic Ministries brings Communion to those who are unable to attend Mass due to illness, surgery, or age. If you or someone you know would benefit from this service, please contact us.

Prayer Opportunities

Mass Intentions

Sunday Masses are offered for dedicated intentions.

If you would like a Mass offered for the repose of the soul of a deceased loved one or for the intentions of a friend or family member, please email Mass Intentions.

Minimum donation: $10.00

Altar Flowers

Sponsor a weekly bouquet for $90 in memory or in honor of a loved one, in celebration of a birthday or anniversary, or in thanksgiving to God. Please email Laura for more information and to schedule your gift.

Prayer Request

Send a private email to Fr. Paul with your prayer requests. He will keep your intentions in his daily prayers and private Masses.

PrayerLine

Our PrayerLine provides support through the power of prayer. Call 831.624.1271, ext. 6, to leave a message with your prayer needs for the PrayerLine team.

Parish Records

Update Parishioner Information

If you would like to update the parishioner information for you or your family, please email us.

Parishioner information includes changes in address, email, phone number, or additions or removals of family members.

Records Request

To request a copy of your sacramental records, please email us.

Requests must be made by the individual or by their legal guardian.

Contribution Statements

Contribution Acknowledgement
Carmel Mission provides an acknowledgment for each and every contribution of $200 or more when contributions are received throughout the year. Additionally, a separate Annual Contribution Statement is sent out annually, listing all contributions received by Carmel Mission during the calendar year.

Annual Contribution Statements
Annual contribution statements are mailed by February 1 each year.

Annual Ministries Appeal (AMA) Contribution Statements
For any questions regarding 2024 AMA contributions that were made payable to the Diocese of Monterey, please contact the Diocese at aaquino-diaz@dioceseofmonterey.org, as donations made payable to the Diocese will come from the Diocese of Monterey.

Contributions made directly to Carmel Mission in support of the AMA will be reflected in a statement from the Mission.

Store/Grounds Hours

Mission grounds close 15 minutes prior to store closing.

Museum, store, and grounds are closed New Year’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and the day after Christmas.
