Dear Friends of Carmel Mission,
This weekend we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord by his cousin John. The beautiful painting which depicts the event adorns the cover of our Bulletin, and can be viewed in the Baptistry, which is the room to your left as you enter the main doors of our beautiful Basilica.
I take this opportunity to express my great gratitude to our Docents, who take such pride in caring for our magnificent art collection. If you would like to learn more about the collection, I invite you to purchase the beautiful book which was written by two of our Docents, Mary Pat McCormick and Gail Sheridan, The Art of Carmel Mission. The book is available in our Museum Gift Store.
Our Docents also provide tours of the Mission for our pilgrims, visitors and Fourth Graders, so that the true story of our beautiful Mission is passed on to another generation.
It would be remiss of me not to mention that the Docents contribute from their funds to the preservation and restoration of our collection of art and artifacts. Recently, they were the major contributor to the restoration of the 15th century statue of Our Lady of Bethlehem, which, again, is back at its shrine in our Basilica.
I thank all of our Docents for their dedication, knowledge, and love of Carmel Mission.
