Pastor’s Weekly Message 1-20-19

Dear Friends of Carmel Mission,

The gospel reading this weekend relates the story of the Wedding at Cana. Jesus, His Mother Mary and a number of His disciples attended. He used this occasion to perform His first miracle, the changing of the water into wine.

It is interesting to note that He seemed at first to be reluctant to intervene in a situation where the happy couple were facing great embarrassment, due to the fact that they had very little wine remaining for their guests.

It was the intervention of His Mother that caused Him to change His mind. She is our Blessed Mother, and continues to intervene on our behalf, when we turn to her for help.

This gospel is often chosen by couples who are married here at our Mission. We have by far the greatest number of weddings of any church in our diocese. Couples come from near and far, seeking to receive the Sacrament of Matrimony. Can you think of a more beautiful and sacred place to be married?

In order to make each wedding at Carmel Mission an occasion to remember for the couple, we guide them through the necessary preparation process. We have developed a wonderful Wedding Team, each team member being dedicated to assisting the bride and groom in every way possible.

We are still working on changing water into wine, but it’s one step at a time.

My sincere gratitude goes to all members of our Wedding Team. I have witnessed them perform many little ‘miracles’ !
