Pastor’s Weekly Message 11-4-18

Dear Friends of Carmel Mission,

On November 2nd, the day when we commemorate our departed loved ones, we gathered in our beautiful Basilica to celebrate a mass for the happy repose of their souls. It was a wonderful event, even though perhaps a little bittersweet.

I want to express my thanks to the members of our Bereavement Ministry, who organized and coordinated the liturgy and the reception that followed. They teamed up with our Knights of Columbus, whose members were on hand to prepare and serve some truly tasty soups. It is always good to see our various ministries working together for the good of our community.

So many people commented on our totally new kitchen in Crespi Parish Hall. Again, my sincere thanks to all who contributed to the renovation of Crespi.

During the mass, many parishioners came forward with a photograph of a departed loved one and placed it on a table in the Sanctuary. These photographs will be placed in our Baptistery until the end of November.

The Church dedicates this month to the remembrance of the Holy Souls. As Christians, we believe that all our loved ones who have gone before us, marked with the sign of faith, will be reunited with us in the presence of our loving God.

Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
