Pastor’s Weekly Message 7/08/18

Dear Friends of Carmel Mission,

As many of you know, we have a wonderful collection of art here at the Mission. If you ever want to gain some useful insights and background knowledge of our art and artists, then I highly recommend that you purchase a copy of the beautiful book, Art from the Carmel Mission, by Gail Sheridan and Mary Pat McCormick. Gail and Mary Pat are members of our Docent Ministry and are most familiar with our artistic treasures. The book is available from our Museum Gift Store.

One of my favorite paintings in our collection is featured on page 99 of the book. It is called “ Gethsemane”, and was painted in 1942, by E. Carlton Fortune. She is a fascinating artist who overcame numerous challenges and succeeded in pushing her creativity to new heights, leaving an artistic legacy of enormous beauty and serene inspiration.

In order to gain some further insight to the life and work of Fortune, I highly recommend that you join us here at Carmel Mission on Friday, July 20th, or Saturday, July 21st, at 7:00pm, for a production of the wonderful play by Steve Hauk,

Fortune’s Way or Notes on Art for Catholics (and Others)

Tickets are now available at:

carmelmission.org or at our Carmel Mission Museum Store. (831) – 624 – 1271

I hope that you will join us.

Fr. Paul
