Dear Friends of Carmel Mission,
On Thursday last, July 19, 2018, the Pro-Cathedral of Madonna del Sasso In Salinas could not contain the number of people who came to attend the funeral mass of our beloved Bishop Richard J. Garcia.
There is a genuine sense of losing, not only a bishop, but a friend, among so many people in the Diocese of Monterey, and indeed, in other dioceses.
As a parish community, we will gather to celebrate his life and legacy on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at 5:30pm. He was not only our beloved bishop, but our dear neighbor,
living on the Mission grounds, in the former Convent property.
Please join us on Tuesday evening.
Light refreshments will be served after the mass.
We welcome our new Apostolic Administrator, Bishop Gerald E. Wilkerson, to the Diocese of Monterey. Bishop Wilkerson will be our shepherd until such time as a new bishop is appointed by Pope Francis.
He comes to us from our neighboring diocese to the south, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. May we welcome him with open arms and loving hearts.
