Pastor’s Weekly Messages 2-24-19

Dear Friends of Carmel Mission,

Thanks to the generosity of the Knights of Columbus, we will have the honor of hosting the Relic of the Heart of St. Jean Vianney here at our beautiful Mission. This prayerful event takes place on Wednesday, February 27th, 2019, in our Blessed Sacrament Chapel, from 7:00am to 5:00pm. We will begin with mass in the Chapel at 7:00am. There will also be a mass at noon.

St. Jean Vianney, known as the Cure d’Ars, is the patron saint of parish priests.

All he ever wanted was to serve the people of God as a simple priest. But he was far from simple. Although he ministered in the remote town of Ars, France, he soon gained a reputation for his holiness and his wisdom. Rich and poor alike travelled great distances to seek his advice. Many people returned to the practice of their Catholic faith, after he heard their Confession.

It is right and appropriate that at this time of great turbulence and turmoil in our Church, we can seek his intercession for an increase in holiness among priests and lay people.

We, at Carmel Mission, have the honor and privilege of having his intact heart present with us. Ours is the only parish in the diocese of Monterey to be thus blessed.

I invite you to come and join us this Wednesday, and to pray that the presence of his holy heart will somehow touch our own heart and bring us closer to our loving God.

Please also pray for your priests at this time.

Fr. Paul
