Let the children come to me and do not hinder them. It is to just such as these that the Kingdom of God belongs.
Mark 10: 13-16
When parents begin registering their children for classes, they often ask, “So, what is Faith Formation?”
Several years ago, rather than the term Religious Ed or CCD, most parishes started using the term Faith Formation. This term better describes, and underscores, the fact that the job of Catholic parents, as the child’s first and most important teacher, along with catechists, is to Inform, Form, and Transform, with God’s grace, the student’s heart and head. Hopefully, they will be empowered by the Lord’s grace to receive all they need to live a life of joyful faith and loving service to God and his people.
We use the FINDING GOD curriculum by Loyola Press for grades K through 5. To prepare for First Reconciliation and First Communion in the Diocese of Monterey, it is necessary for children to attend Faith Formation classes in first and second grades.
At the age of 8 and above, the Church considers the child old enough to make his/her choice to receive the Sacraments. In that case, the children, with his/her parent(s), enters the RCIA Adapted for Children.
Grades 6 through 8 grades study Loyola Press’ CHRIST OUR LIFE, with a supplemental moral formation program, Theology of the Body, by Ascension Press.
Confirmation is a Two Year program for High School, implementing CHOSEN, Your Journey to Confirmation, by Ascension Press.
