Step onto the very grounds where California’s story first took root. Founded in 1771 by Saint Junípero Serra, Carmel Mission Basilica, its tranquil courtyards, and fascinating exhibits, provide an unforgettable living classroom—blending history, art, architecture and faith in one breathtaking setting.
Active Parish Life
The Mission is still a vibrant place of worship. Weddings, liturgies, and special events sometimes limit access to the Basilica itself. Please contact our Museum Store at (831) 624-1271 × 210 in advance for the latest schedule of events on the day of your planned visit.
Respectful Explorers Welcome
We ask guests to consider and be respectful of the prayerful environment.
