Pastor’s Weekly Message 9-22-19

Dear Friends of Carmel Mission,

It’s Fiesta time once again!

Did you know that the beginnings of what would become the fiesta began in the early 1960s? Throughout the Fiesta’s long history, Junipero Serra School groups like the Mothers and Fathers club, along with the Knights of Columbus, worked with the Mission Pastor and parish volunteers to make this yearly event a memorable highlight of the Fall season.

From the early days of the Fiesta’s founding, the procession after mass, from the Basilica to the Mission courtyard, would signal the start of the festivities. There, visitors and parishioners alike were warm-heartedly welcomed by mariachi music, traditional dancing, handcrafted arts, and the aroma of Chicken BBQ dinners served by the Knights.

The goodwill and efforts of so many Parish families who worked to create a yearly success are remembered fondly. The Parish especially recalls the many years of service provided by the Robotti, Calcagno and Odello families who helped establish the Fiesta as a Parish tradition.

The tradition continues — I invite you to join us on Sunday, October 6th, 2019 (11 AM – 5 PM) in our beautiful Basilica and Courtyard, where it all began.

Blessings,
Fr. Paul
