Dear Friend of Carmel Mission,
As we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany, and recall the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles, through the three visitors from the East, my thoughts are centered on our beloved founder and first pastor, Saint Junipero Serra. He also came from the East bearing gifts.
He did not carry with him any gold, frankincense and myrrh. He brought his Bible, which tells the Good News of God’s inclusive love for all people, and his Caravaca Cross, to remind us of how that love was made manifest through the saving death and resurrection of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. We have recently provided these two symbols of God’s love with a place of honor in our Mission Museum.
May all who visit our beautiful Mission become more aware of God’s love.
