Pastor’s Weekly Message 11-25-18

Dear Friends of Carmel Mission,

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of Christ, the Universal King. It marks the end of our liturgical cycle. Next week we enter the Season of Advent.

The Kingship of Christ is totally unlike any earthly kingship. His throne is the Cross, on which He was crucified. He told the Roman Governor, Pontius Pilate, that His Kingdom is not of this world. He exercised His power by serving others and by healing those in need of healing.

He was so totally integrated in His humanity, that He was never envious of others, but sought only to bring out the best in people. Christ is our King only if we claim His Kingship.

That means that we are willing to adopt His agenda, an agenda that seeks to foster justice, peace and love of neighbor.

It’s the easiest thing in the world to settle for less, but Christ our King is not satisfied with that- He urges us to go for more, to be the best we can be. His message is clear. His challenge is always before us. He respects our choice – we can follow Him and work to make His Kingdom a reality, or we can turn our backs and walk away. What a loss that would be!
