Pastor’s Weekly Message 12-22-19

Dear Friends of Carmel Mission,

As we get closer to Christmas, we can almost reach out and touch the excitement in the air.

I saw that excitement in the eyes of a four year old girl recently, when she began telling me of all the wondrous things that her new iPhone would be able to do. She asked me to pray that Santa Claus would bring her the latest model, and in her favorite color – pink. So much for childhood innocence!

The God who created the universe used His divine ingenuity and imagination to fashion us human beings in His own image and likeness. It was in the days before the Internet and Social Media. (I
can hear the four year old girl react with incredulity to such a claim that time existed prior to Google!)

God is the great communicator. He proclaims only Good News, no fake news. He sent numerous messengers over centuries to bring that Good News to us. But we did not listen. We were busy with
many things. He then had the divinely brilliant idea of sending us His only Son. Now, the Word that God had spoken through His messengers became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory.

As we make our final preparations for Christmas, may we take some time in prayerful reflection to welcome the Prince of Peace.

Advent blessings,

Fr. Paul
