Dear Friend of Carmel Mission,
In the Gospel today, Jesus tells His disciples that they are witnesses to His life, His death, and His glorious Resurrection. Every person since that moment who chooses to be a follower of Jesus is given the same mandate as the original disciples; be a witness to the Resurrection.
Our founder and first pastor, St. Junipero Serra felt this call to witness and evangelization in a profound way. The desire to share the Good News of the Gospel brought him to these shores from his home in Spain over 250 years ago. In his founding of the initial California Missions, including our own Carmel Mission, he continued the work of the disciples, sharing the message of love, hope and peace that is our Catholic faith.
St. Junipero’s work lives on today here at Carmel Mission. We are proud and honored, 250 years after our founding, to continue to spread the Good News, and welcome all who join our community of faith and visit our historic sacred space. Our AMA campaign this year, Recovery and Renewal, is focused on the very commission Jesus gave the first disciples in today’s Gospel when He said, “you are the witnesses of these things.” (Luke 24:48). The goals of our AMA campaign will develop our ability to communicate with our virtual community online, as well as to improve and enhance the experience of the many visitors and pilgrims we are fortunate to welcome to the Mission.
This weekend we will be taking up a special second collection at our Masses in support of the AMA. We are blessed with the generosity of a parishioner who is offering a matching gift of $25,000. If you have not already given to the campaign, now is the perfect time, as your contribution will be doubled through this match. Thank you for your support which allows us to continue the work of the disciples, the work of St. Junipero, into the future.
I wish you and your loved ones continues Easter blessings of good health, new hope and great peace,
