Pastor’s Weekly Message 4-4-21

Dear Friend of Carmel Mission,

Alleluia, He is Risen! Jesus has risen from the dead, carrying with Him all our hope, and the world will never the same.

I am always encouraged by the witness of the unnamed disciple in the Gospel today, who does not yet fully understand what it means that Jesus has risen from the dead, but when he sees, he believes. This kernel of faith grew into the Church of Jesus Christ. Two thousand and twenty-one years later, we are still here, growing our faith and renewing our hope in the Risen Lord.

When we view the world through the lens of the evening news, or the latest social media post, it can be hard to have hope. But when we view the world through the lens of sacred Scripture, it is impossible to not be filled with hope for our world. We are loved by a God who conquered death itself. When death is not an end to be feared, but a beginning to be embraced, fear is dead. When pain and humiliation can be offered as an act of love, as Christ did on the Cross, what once seemed insurmountable can be overcome. In the face of the frightening and devastating Covid-19 pandemic, we remain an Easter people. Our hope in the Resurrection gives us resilience, patience, courage, and joy.

Two hundred and fifty years ago, St. Junipero founded this Mission with this same hope of the Resurrection in his heart. He yearned to share the Good News of our God who so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that all people might be saved and death and fear might be vanquished forever. We are honored to carry St. Junipero’s legacy into the future with hope in our hearts.

Wish you and your loved ones Easter blessings of good health, new hope and great joy,

Fr. Paul
