Dear Friends in Christ,
I vividly remember my first Corpus Christi Procession.
The Dominican Sisters had us dress up in our Sunday best
as we formed in pairs to process around the perimeter of
the school grounds, scattering freshly picked rose petals,
from the Convent rose garden, on the pathway.
Our local Pastor carried the Monstrance, containing the white
host in procession. The air was filled with the scent of roses
and the fragrance of the incense. Isn’t it interesting how smells
can transport us back in time?
I never stopped wondering about that white host carried
with great care and enclosed in the Monstrance.
I guess that I will always wonder about it and the Mystery
that it contains. This weekend at Carmel Mission we will be
having our own Corpus Christi procession.
The scent of roses may not be present, but the fragrance of the incense will fill
the air, as the Monstrance is carried from our beautiful Basilica
to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, following the 11:00 am mass.
May we never cease to wonder at the fact that our Savior left us
His Body, Corpus Christi, so that we can continue to walk with Him,
each day of our lives.
